Maternity clothes have gone a long way over the years. Pregnancy has been also a phase where the woman can show how sexy she can be. Today, there are variable clothes for business, formal wear, and even lingerie specifically for the pregnant woman.

Pregnany may now be equated to, “how stylish can you get!”

A problem that would occur is how much money you are willing to spend on maternity clothes. This is because it is only worn for a short period of time. Not every body is like Angelina Jolie or Katie Holmes that can sport designer clothes during pregnancy and then just stuff it back in the closet like it wasn’t that expensive.

On the brighter side of things, these celebrities show us that there are really maternity clothes that are fashionable, where you could still be yourself. Well, this is opposed to unflattering maternity pants and tent-like dresses.

Here are some solutions where you can dress like celebrity pregnant moms but still be within the budget.

1. Get your money’s worth. Select clothes that you can wear while you’re pregnant all the way to your nursing stage. Another suggestion would be buy clothes that could go well with your existing clothes that still fit.

2. Borrow. There is nothing wrong from borrowing your sister’s or aunt’s maternity clothes. Here you really save money. The problem is you just have to let their sense of style work for you.

3. Plus size rocks! Sometimes, just plus sizes of the average clothing would work for you. No need to buy special maternity clothes. Often times, plus sizes cost less than clothes meant for pregnant women.

4. Look through your husband’s clothes. This speaks for itself.

5. Look for discounts and sales. Raid the malls with sales. Visit factory outlets and yard sales to look for some cheap clothing.

Now you know where to look for the maternity clothes for at less cost. However, sometimes we really have no choice but to shop for new ones. Here are is list of steps to follow in shopping for maternity clothes.

1.   Know your before pregnancy size and shop for it. Most shops base their sizes on your size before you were pregnant. This way they can estimate how big you are going to get.

2.  Keyword: Stretch. Buy clothes that can stretch. These clothes would be made up of 4-10% elastin or spandex. This would ensure that the clothes will expand while you do.

3. Consider your growing belly. Thus, check the maternity clothes’ cuts. There should be room for the growth of the belly.

4. Buy dresses that would flow down to your knees or lower. This is because the hem will rise when your belly gets bigger.

5. Buy more tops than bottoms. Mix and match the different tops with the bottom.

6. When trying the maternity clothes, feel how it wraps around you tummy and if the breats are comfortable.

7. Buy only two to three bras because the breasts tend to grow bigger after pregnancy.

8. Splurge on only one outfit. This one outfit can be used during special occassions when pregnant.

NOTE: It is recommended that solids are preferred over stripes and prints during pregnancy. This is because stripes and prints emphasize how large you are.

Pregnancy is not an excuse to forget about your style. Even during pregnancy, you can express yourself through your clothing. This simple guide can advance you to the road to the maternity fashion highway.

Now July is here, we full fledge into swimsuit season and super hot weather. If you are expecting this is no time to shy away from all the fun at the pool or beach due to pregnancy. Many women are body conscious to begin with, regardless of their body type, and typically pregnancy can bring out that tendency in greater force. However, if you find a truly great maternity swimsuit along with an easy to wear cover-up for poolside lounging, there is nothing to keep you from the water or beach this summer.

Prego Maternity is a great brand to check out when swimsuit shopping. All of their styles are available on the web if you don’t have the time to go out to your local maternity store, or if you don’t care for the selection at your local stores. Many maternity boutiques do not stock a lot swimsuit styles and what is available can often go quickly, so your best bet may be to shop online. Make sure you do checkout the online store’s return policy as some stores only allow store credit or exchanges on returns and some do not allow any returns or exchanges on swimsuits.

Prego Maternity has many different maternity swimsuit styles available. For serious swimmers, checkout their one piece suits such as the Empire Tank which offers the maximum support with wide adjustable strap and a sleek overall design. For more recreational swimmers, the Texture Heart Suit is a good all around suit at a great price.

If you are looking for maximum coverage, consider the baby doll styles that come in both halter and tank strap designs. These styles allow full coverage of the belly, chest, hips and bottom in a flirty empire waist cut.

Other fun styles to consider are the halterkini, tankini and hipkini. All of these styles are different versions of 2 piece suits with belly coverage and bikini bottoms. They are all available in a variety of colors, patterns and ties. Some of these styles have adjustable tie bottoms which are good for women who are bigger on the bottom than the top or vice versa.

If you are all out daring and like to bare it all, take a look at Prego’s maternity bikinis which are really designed to stretch in just the right way for an expecting woman. Even if you have already had your baby and not ready to squeeze back into your former pre-pregnancy suit and especially if you are nursing your baby, there is the perfect suit for you. This nursing swimwear is an adorable 2 piece suit that covers the belly with adjustable bra straps and bikini bottoms. This suit comes in hot pink and black. Many women buy this suit when they are pregnant for maximum before and after use.

When trying on swimsuits, don’t forget to think ahead as you will get bigger as your pregnancy progresses. As women, we are usually programmed by society to squeeze into the smallest suit possible that will suck in any unwanted layers and make us look as thin as possible. However, this approach is usually not the best, or healthiest for an expecting mom to be. If you are between sizes, it is usually best to order up. Also, look for suits that have a good percentage of lyra for extra stretch as you grow, close to 20% is a good guide. Also remember when you wash your suit only machine wash on gentle cycle in cold water and DO NOT put your suit in the dryer or all that lycra will stretch out place and ruin your suit forever. Always drip dry your suit after washing and it should last you throughout your pregnancy.

If you are looking for a little more modesty at the pool or beach, take a look at Maternal America’s Swimsuit Cover-ups and Tunics. These cover-ups come in both a short tie back style with a deep V neck and a longer featherweight tunic style with a scoop neck. Both styles are available in white or black and can be worn with other clothing too for a different look. There are many cuts and styles in maternity swimwear today which can be overwhelming to a first time maternity clothes shopper. Fortunately with the range of styles today, you can find the ideal suit for your pregnancy body. As with any swimsuit, the most important factor is fit. The following is a basic guide for some suits to consider if you are looking for specific features:

Exercise Swimsuit

If you are looking for a maternity swimsuit to swim laps in the pool and to function like a sports swimsuit, one pieces are always your best bet. The Maternal America Empire Tank is a great choice for maternity sport swimsuit. This suit has all the features you need for serious lap swimming in addition to excellent bust support. Hip Coverage

Let’s begin with the word Lingerie itself.  What does it mean?   Where did it come from?

The word itself is of French derivation and originally meant “linen goods”.  The actual word can be traced back in history as coming from “linum”, the word used for flax.

Now “linen goods” does not bring to mind any images of the scantily clad women  we see today so it seems as if it went through some kind of transition.   In 18th and 19th century England, it was considered improper for a women to openly refer to her underwear in normal conversation and polite euphemisms were used instead.

The French of the time simply referred to “womens underwear” with the French word lingerie as a substitute for that which you did not openly iscuss.  Lingerie of the time had the sole purpose of absorbing sweat and other body fluids in an attempt to preserve the much more expensive outer wear.  The lothes of the day were not mass produced in China, they were mostly handmade to order by a family member or a professional seamstress etc.  The point being, outer wear was considered expensive, hard to come by, and therefore had to be looked after and kept clean.

Underwear  was therefore made of cheap linen which could be washed often and replaced much more easily and affordably.

So how did the French word lingerie find it’s way into the English language?  Corsets were already in use by Victorian women during this time but they used the word ‘corset’ as is.  The corset is therefore not responsible for popularizing the word lingerie.  It comes from another French invention called the brassiere which became known to the English and Americans during the roaring twenties,
spurred on by early Hollywood films which threw a spot light on beautiful women with desirable bodies in sexy dresses.  Soon everybody was talking about the gorgeous movie stars and women wanted to shape their bodies and style their hair to resemble the screen icons of the day.  The brassiere became the hot item and the French became seen as the “knowledgeable source” of desirable women’s underwear. 

The brassiere was originally designed only to support the breasts but it versatility was quickly recognized  and over a relatively short time it’s use branched out to cover the many needs of the day.  The question for women was, what did you want to do with your breasts?  Just provide support, support and lift etc.  The versatile brassiere could be designed to fit any need.  Styles changed from flat to pointy to naturally rounded.  Men took notice.  Women noticed that men were interested which just fueled the fire.

Stockings, suspenders and brassiere became collectively referred to using the French word “lingerie” because it sounded more exotic and mysterious than any wording the English speaking marketing people could come up with.  Thus the word lingerie became popular and ingrained as the term used to describe “special womens underwear” as being something different to functional womens underwear.

Shaping peoples bodies to emphasize certain features is hardly a new idea.  Paintings from Crete (ancient Greece) depict Minoan women wearing a type of corset to slim the waist and push out the breasts to make a feature of them. 

This is typical of the changing and different viewpoints among various cultures and times.   Most of today’s men would love to bring back the Minoan dress code for women.  Their culture did also have its advantages.  Women were treated as equals and garnered as much respect from men as they did admiration.

Modern day Lingerie

Today there is still a high demand for products which emphasize the desirable qualities of a womens body.Stockings are designed to make a womens legs more appealing and sexy.

The Chemis is similar to the Babydoll but is slightly longer.
It leans away from being cute and emphasizes beauty and femininity.

The Teddie is a figure hugging one piece garment that keeps tension on the
fabric by means of the adjoining piece between the legs.  This fabric tension helps the garment look smooth at all times.  Garments like corsets require boning to keep the fabric taught but teddies can achieve almost the same look without the discomfort of the
boning.

Bra and pantie matched sets are also attractive and by far the most practical of all
lingerie.  They can be discreetly worn under everyday clothes and many women go to work wearing sexy matched set lingerie as a way of feeling sexy in the work place or secretly rebelling against the dress code.

Lingerie for big beautiful women

You would be mistaken in thinking that lingerie is only for women with beautiful bodies like those above.Plus size lingerie is fast becoming popular with full figure women.  Perhaps the world is beginning to realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Lingerie companies realized their mistake and discovered a huge untapped market in the average women who lacked the
goddess like figure. 

Lingerie for fun

There are people who take their pleasure seriously and stick with traditional lingerie because, you know, they worry about their reputations.  Even buying lingerie may have been a big step for them.  Yet there are other people who see the fun side of things. They buy lots of different types of lingerie and dress according to the mood they are in. Sex becomes a game to them, something to enjoy with your partner.  Many such  people have also taken to wearing fancy costumes like nurse uniforms, police, school girl outfits and so on to facilitate playing a role in an interesting fantasy.  Most lingerie shops will also carry a range of costumes to cater for these less inhibited people.

Lingerie for men

So what about lingerie for men?  You do get the usual thong and tight shiny shorts, boxer shorts and so on but the market is small compared to female lingerie and not a lot of creativity has been directed that way.  Many men are also insecure with regards to dressing up to get attention because society is quick to assign derogatory labels to such men.  The average guy needs to feel confident around his lady and might not be able to ‘rise’ to the occasion if he were wearing anything that did not make him look manly enough in his or his partners opinion.

Conclusion

It’s important to realize that the whole subject of what’s hot and what’s not is based purely on the opinion of the day and the people involved.  On the subject of lingerie, there is no right or wrong way to dress other than what you or your partner consider to be right or wrong. 

I have only touched on the more mainstream lingerie topics.  There are many more niche markets products which are not suitable to be covered in a general article such as this.

When we get word that a little one is on the way whether we are adopting or pregnant it sets off the nesting instinct in us. We start browsing the baby products at all of the local stores and we spend hours surfing the web for the latest baby gear. Whether your new to the game or you have been away for a while, the seamlessly never ending stream of new baby gadgets can be very confusing. The fact is, your baby only needs a few basic baby products and some simple baby gear to get started in this world. Let’s exam the essentials every baby must have.

1. Feeding items are a must whether you are bottle or breastfeeding. You will need your feeding items before you even leave the hospital, so they are essential. If you are bottle feeding your baby you will need to decide what bottles you will be using and stock up on smaller sized bottles. You will also need to select a formula and get a bottle brush, drying rack and warmer. If you are planning on breastfeeding your baby you will need breast pads, a nursing bra and possibly a breast pump and storage kit. Regardless of which feeding method you choose you will need burp cloths and bibs.

2. Diapering items are also a part of essential baby gear. There are many diapering baby products available and sorting out what you do and don’t need can be mind bending. When buying diapering products you must decide between cloth and disposable diapers before you proceed with any other purchases. If you choose to use a cloth diapering system you will need a diaper pail and plenty of cloth diapers to start. If you decide to go with a disposable diapering system you will need to stock up on newborn sized diapers and you may want to consider buying a diaper pail. Regardless of which diapering method you choose you will need baby wipes, a diaper changing pad and some form of diaper rash treatment.

3. When you and your baby are ready to leave the hospital and head on your way home you must have a car safety seat. Car safety seats are required by law and most hospitals won’t even allow you to leave without one. It is absolutely essential that you make sure your car safety seat is not recalled and that it is suitable for infants. Typically the reclined rear facing carrier style seats are best. Additionally, if your car safety seat does not already have one in place you will want to buy an infant head positioner. Newborns are unable to control their neck and head, so the positioner nestles them in their car safety seat comfortably.

Naturally, there is so much more out there that you will want and need for your baby. Just keep in mind that your baby only wants for you to love them and meet their basic needs.

Nursing your baby is so important and is something that should be done if it’s at all possible. Some say you should nurse for at least the first six months while others say the first year. You will know what is right for you and your baby.

When you have a baby you are tired and sore, but this is the most important time to nurse your new baby. They need all the vitamins and nutrients that are found in breastmilk. Here are some tips that will help you start nursing the right way and right away.

1.        Pillow

Using a pillow will help with comfort for both you and the baby. It will also help ease the pressure if you had a c-section. A pillow will also help keep the baby at the level he needs to be so he can nurse properly and not struggle.

Using a nursing pillow makes it even easier. They are specifically designed to fit to the curves of your body. A nursing pillow helps reduce pain in the back and neck. They are even used by lactation nurses in the hospital.

2.        Covers

When you first start nursing it may be difficult for you to nurse in public. Fear of someone seeing you or making you feel uncomfortable can cause you to stop nursing or stop you from going out in public. When you use a sling or cover your mind will be at ease and you won’t have a problem nursing in public.

3.        Nursing bra

Nursing bras make it easier to nurse whether you are at home or in public and they can be purchased in many different places. They are designed to work well and easily.

4.        Pumps

When it’s not possible to nurse your baby, you still want them to have breastmilk. The perfect way to make this happen is to use a breast pump. Breast pumps have come a long way. They used to be all manual, which meant your hands and arms would get tired after a while. Now they have electronic pumps that make it so much easier. Either way, they are easy to use. It’s well worth the work involved to pump so your baby can have breastmilk when you can’t nurse.

5.        Storage

Pumping in the past meant you had a bag that you would seal, date, and place in the freezer. Plastic bags were difficult to stack which meant they would take up more room. Now they have freezer safe storage bottles. It’s the perfect way to pump breastmilk and store in the freezer. You can stack them with ease so you will have room for food in the freezer as well.

New mothers or mothers that are new to breastfeeding, need to have everything in place so they can nurse with ease. Using these tips will help you get a great start and feel comfortable with every part of it. Breastfeeding is important and when it’s made easy for you, you will likely nurse all of your children.
